Sana’a – The University of Science and Technology (UST), with funding from the Skills Development Fund, has launched a package of specialized training programs aimed at enhancing the skills and capabilities of Yemeni workers seeking employment abroad. The initiative was inaugurated under the patronage of Prof. al-Qasem Mohammed Abbas, President of the University, as part of an active partnership between the two sides to strengthen vocational qualification and improve the competencies of national cadres in line with the demands of the external labor market.

The first phase enrolled 40 trainees, distributed across two main programs: Communication Skills and Occupational Health and Safety. These programs focused on reinforcing essential behavioral and professional competencies to enable participants to integrate effectively into foreign work environments and uphold established professional performance standards.
This initiative aims to equip trainees with the technical skills and practical knowledge that increase their chances of securing suitable employment opportunities abroad. It also contributes to raising productivity and promoting professional discipline, thereby presenting a positive and credible image of Yemeni expertise across various sectors.
Several officials from the Fund attended the launch event, including the Director General of Training, the Director General of Studies and Program Planning, the Director General of Internal Audit, and the Director General of Supervision and Evaluation. They reviewed the progress of the training process and observed the level of engagement and discipline, praising the readiness of the programs and the quality of organization and oversight.
In his remarks, the Director General of Training underscored the importance of such initiatives in preparing and qualifying Yemeni workers according to recognized professional standards, thereby enhancing their competitiveness in regional and international labor markets. He emphasized the need for trainees to remain committed and to make full use of the training content to achieve the intended outcomes.
The current phase will be followed by a series of specialized professional, administrative, and financial programs designed according to the trainees’ qualifications and the nature of the target professions, ensuring alignment between training outcomes and the needs of labor‑receiving countries.
For his part, Jamal Zaid, Director of Centers at the University, stated that the implementation of these programs reflects the University’s societal responsibility and its commitment to addressing unemployment challenges and opening new horizons for Yemeni youth. He affirmed the continuation of cooperation and coordination between UST, the Skills Development Fund, and other relevant entities to develop high‑quality programs that promote investment in human capital as the foundation of sustainable development.
